WHEN THE SKY TURNS PURPLE features work from five of the next
generation of photographic artists and takes an engaging and exciting
approach to conceptual and personal issues central to photographic
practice. It opens a space where those illusive aspects that might
define what photography actually is are explored from a variety of
angles. As one such facet, the notion of our perception of reality
and the photograph itself is implicitly implicated throughout the
work. Each artist takes an individual stance on the theme, resulting
in a collection that is coherent yet diverse. Together this body of
work is colourful and visually engaging, and features creative and
original approaches to working with photography as an artistic medium.
